Remand Foster Carers Animation

“Some children reach a courtroom, long before they reach adulthood.”.

Birmingham Children’s Trust commissioned this animation to raise awareness of remand fostering — a vital but little-known area of the care system. The brief was to communicate a sensitive and complex subject clearly and compassionately, reaching potential foster carers who might never have considered this specific role. The script confronts a difficult reality head on: that children as young as those who should be in school can find themselves remanded by the courts, often placed in police cells or young offender institutes simply because there is nowhere else for them to go. The creative challenge was to handle this subject with honesty and warmth — neither softening the reality nor making it feel hopeless. The animation had to move people emotionally, inspire action and ultimately recruit foster carers willing to open their homes at the most pivotal moment in a child's life. A piece of visual storytelling with a genuine human purpose behind every frame.
