NHS South, Central and West (SCW).

NHS South, Central and West (NHS SCW) provides support and transformation services to health and care systems, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes for people, communities and populations. They approached us to assist in kick starting their campaign that highlights the services they provided across the many areas of the NHS.

Case Study:

Client:

NHS South, Central and West (SCW)

Role:

Creative Design & Motion Partner — Concept Development, Design, Animation, Storytelling

Objective / Challenge:

NHS South, Central and West (SCW) is one of the largest Commissioning Support Units in the UK, providing strategic, operational, and analytical expertise to Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), NHS Trusts, and wider health and care systems. This project aimed to communicate how SCW supports the NHS through innovation, collaboration, and data-driven insight — delivered through a series of narrative case studies and visual storytelling assets.

Each story covered a different area of SCW’s impact — from urgent care strategy to carbon reduction — and involved multiple stakeholders, datasets, and outcomes. The challenge was to create a cohesive narrative voice and visual identity that reflected both SCW’s technical expertise and its people-first approach. The content needed to be accessible for both internal NHS audiences and the public, balancing clarity, professionalism, and emotional engagement.

To capture SCW’s full impact, I developed a storytelling framework centred on three principles:

  1. Clarity: Simplify complex health system interventions into clear data visualization.

  2. Consistency: Maintain a unified tone, visual style, and pacing across multiple case studies.

  3. Engagement: Keep the viewer focused on the data presented.

Each segment was developed as a mini narrative, supported by motion design, data visualisation, and voiceover scripts.

Outcome:

The combined project demonstrated SCW’s role as a trusted, expert partner to NHS organisations — one that blends data, design, and delivery to improve system performance and patient care. Through consistent creative storytelling, the final suite of scripts and visuals provided a clear, inspiring overview of SCW’s innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact across the healthcare system.

Key Takeaways

  • Clear, data-informed communication strengthens understanding of complex healthcare work.

  • Motion design and storytelling can humanise analytical projects and amplify engagement.

  • SCW’s work embodies how creativity and data can combine to drive systemic change for the NHS.
